Power of Positivity:The Mistake That Woke Me Up

IMG_6052.PNGMy name is Anna and I had been sentenced to three months house arrest. It was the summer of 2013…I had gotten my second DUI.

I know what you’re thinking…I know. How is that even possible?? I never felt like such sh** in my life. And to top it off, I was going through a breakup.

It was June of 2013 and it was the night before my confinement. I wanted to make the most of what little time I had left. I was hanging out with some friends and happened to notice a book on the end table. I picked it up and skimmed through some pages. The boy who owned the book noticed my interest and started talking to me about it. He then gave me the book and said to read it, it would change my life. It was called, “The Secret”.

After a few days of being confined in my home, I finally decided to open the book -I couldn’t put it down. This book was teaching me the power of positive thinking and how we can have and do anything we put our minds to. I had always known these things, but never really understood -until now.

By the time I had finished the book, I had come to the realization that I needed a change; A change of scenery, people, places, and things. I had no idea where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do, but I knew that once they removed that ankle monitor, I was hitting the road.

About a month later, I received a text from my cousin in Raleigh, NC insisting that I move there.

In the spring of 2014, I took a trip to Raleigh. Two weeks later I was living there. This was the start of a new chapter. I had the opportunity to reinvent myself.

Now, of course I was sad to leave my friends and family behind, but I knew that this opportunity came for a reason. Whether it worked out or didn’t, I was gaining a new experience.

I spent a year in Raleigh. And although I loved it, I decided to make another spontaneous move. My sister and my future brother-in-law encouraged me to move to Annapolis, MD. So I did. I found a good job two weeks in. I bought a new car. And I got an apartment with a friend I made.

What I know for sure is; past mistakes are meant to guide you, not define you. At 28 years old, I finally feel content.

“The Secret” has truly brought me so much peace. With an open mind you can accomplish anything. Every time I need motivation I go back to this book. To anyone that needs some enlightenment; this is the go-to.

“The Secret” IS the secret. 🔑😉
